O Canada - Unabridged

Check it out!  The additional verses to our national anthem.  My way of saying "Happy Belated Birthday Canada!"

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.

Chorus
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada!
Where pines and maples grow,
Great prairies spread, and lordly rivers flow.
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From east to western sea.
The land of hope for all who toil,
The true north strong and free!

Chorus

O Canada!
Beneath our shining skies,
May stalwart sons, and gentle maidens rise.
To keep thee steadfast through the years,
From east to western sea,
Our own beloved native land,
Our true north strong and free!

Chorus

Ruler Supreme!
Who hearest humble prayer,
Hold thy dominion in thy loving care.
Help us to find, Oh God, in thee,
A lasting rich reward.
As waiting for the better day,
We ever stand on guard!

Chorus

Legislating Morality??

Just a couple days ago a Christian friend wrote me an email and asked if I would hold it against them that they were completely oposed to making abortion illegal and that they were in favour of regognizing homosexual marriages.  They went on to explain that they believed those things are and should be a person's legal right.  They believed that homosexuality and abortion were morally wrong but felt legally apposing them was counter-productive and that forcing people to follow Jesus' commands will just make it harder for them to choose to follow Him themeselves.  They encouraged me to try to influence people to make the choice against abortion and homosexuality but not to force them through legislation.

I know there are probably alot of you out there who either agree with this friend of mine or have friends who have said the same thing to you... so here's how I replied to this.

"No, I would defintely not hold it against you, however, I think the way that you're reasoning about this I cannot agree with.

I do not believe that our government should outlaw the homosexual lifestyle, that WOULD be overstepping our boundaries just as much as it would be wrong to outlaw sex before marriage.  However, our government should not feel the need to ENDORSE this lifestyle by CHANGING the traditional definition, and watering it down in so doing, in order include these people into a term that cannot by its very essence pertain to the kind of relationship they embrace.

On the abortion issue, I guess this comes down to whether or not you consider the unborn child a human being... if so then calling outlawing abortion "legislating morality" would be the same as calling outlawing murder "legislating morality".  And I am not bashing people who have abortions here... I'm just making an apologetic point.  Also, again, even if our goverment doesn't feel that it can outlaw abortion, it should NOT feel the need to FUND abortions that are NOT medically necessary, and most of them aren't.

I don't believe that these universal values of life and marriage need only be associated with following Christ... I don't think that promoting these values (or at least remaining neutral on them instead of crushing them) as a country is trying to force people to convert by ANY means.  It is simply endeavoring to posture ourselves as a society in a way that will build up instead of tear down our most valuable asset (life) and the building block of our society (the family) instead of promoting a culture of death that is killing our generation and wreaking havok on our demographics and a culture of sexual promiscuity that degrades children and floods us with STD's and posturing our selves as a country in a way that God CANNOT and WILL NOT bless abundantly.

I hate to do a heavy here, but as you're a fellow Christian I'm hoping that you will understand where I'm coming from here even if you don't agree with it, but it is very clear in the Bible that God is VERY interested in "secular" governments and government leaders making choices that honour Him and His universal principals... I think of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and Nebuchadnezzar, Nehemiah and Artaxerxes, Esther and Xerxes, Daniel and Darius, and Paul and Ceasar, Jeremiah and Cyrus...  If you think about the great society's of teh past... Babylon, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Incan Empire... it was when they fell into gross sexual promiscuity, idol worship, and disdain for life (murder, child sacrifice, etc.) that the civilization eventually fell and fell catastrophically.  If our country continues on the path we have placed ourself we will, inevitably suffer the same fate.  I for one do NOT want to stand by and see that happen because I'm afraid that what you are calling "legislating morality" is infringing too much on people's rights... I feel the need to show some "tough love" when it comes to Canada.  Canada was founded on God-honouring principles and it's written all over our history and national monuments... there is a deliberate attack by the one who comes to steal, kill, and destroy to take God out of EVERYTHING including Canada's goverment.  I don't think we need to be a blatantly Christian nation in any respects... there is a clear difference between being MORAL and being a CHRISTIAN... but I think there is nothing wrong with posturing ourselves as a nation in a way that God WILL bless, otherwise we are disqualifiying ourselves and setting ourselves up to become a godless and blatantly immoral society.  Is that what you want?

I know this stuff is super heavy, but I hope you'll hear me out just as I'm glad to do for you, and look forward to talking more about this in the future as teh opportunity arises."

In Him,
Beth

Canada's Cry

I wrote this on January 24, just one day after Canada's last federal election.  I felt led to go back to this Psalm and when I read it I was moved almost to tears.  I know it's a long read... but please hang in there and see if God speaks to you through it the was He has to me.  I'd love to hear what you sense He's saying here.

passion.surrender.
Beth
Dear Canadian Patriots,

I had a very strong sense this morning as I was reading Psalm 102 that this was "Canada's Cry: Psalm for a New Canada", that this Psalm expressed the voice of the spiritual heart of the true Canada.  I hope as you read this God will speak to you through it as He did for me and your heart will be filled with both th great anticipation and the great sorrow in the heart of God for our country.  I feel there may be something significant in the number 102, but God hasn't revealed it to me yet - if you have any insight into this, please let me know.

I have paraphrased this Psalm by using female personal pronouns to reflect Canada, and replacing the words Zion and Jerusalem with Canada and Ottawa, my changes are in brackets.

Psa 102:1

<A Prayer of the afflicted, when [she] is overwhelmed, and poureth out [her] complaint before the LORD.> Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come unto thee.

Psa 102:2 Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.

Psa 102:3

For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as an hearth.

Psa 102:4

My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread.

Psa 102:5

By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin.

Psa 102:6

I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert.

Psa 102:7

I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.

Psa 102:8

Mine enemies reproach me all the day; and they that are mad against me are sworn against me.

Psa 102:9

For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping,

Psa 102:10

Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down.

Psa 102:11

My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass.

Psa 102:12

But thou, O LORD, shalt endure for ever; and thy remembrance unto all generations.

Psa 102:13

Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon [Canada]: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.

Psa 102:14

For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof.

Psa 102:15

So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.

Psa 102:16

When the LORD shall build up [Canada], he shall appear in his glory.

Psa 102:17

He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.

Psa 102:18

This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD.

Psa 102:19

For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth;

Psa 102:20

To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death;

Psa 102:21

To declare the name of the LORD in [Canada], and his praise in [Ottawa];

Psa 102:22

When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD.

Psa 102:23

He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days.

Psa 102:24

I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations.

Psa 102:25

Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.

Psa 102:26

They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:

Psa 102:27

But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.

Psa 102:28

The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.
God has won many battles in the last 24 hr, but we are still in a war... this is just the beginning.

For God and Country,
Beth

P.S.  Take a look at the song lyrics below from History Maker... Yes it's true, and WE'VE JUST SEEN IT!
--
"God bless Canada!"
~Hon. Steven Harper, Canada's 22nd Prime Minister

"Well it's true today that when people stand
With the fire of God, and the truth in hand
We'll see miracles, we'll see angels sing
We'll see broken hearts making history
Yes it's true and I believe it
We're living for You"

History Maker - Delirious?

Now is the Time

In the hour of her greatest need, God is calling a generation to rise up and “stand on guard” for righteousness in Canada.  God has a vision for a young army of “History Makers”, He is revealing strategies for taking the land, and He is moving mightily on behalf of those who are storming the heavenlies and then putting feet to their prayers on behalf of our nation.

Last year I was “perishing without vision”(Prov. 29:18), just like many others my age.  Then God got my attention through the ministry of a dynamic young woman named Faytene Kryskow, founder of MY Canada (Motivated Young People for a Strong Canada).  He began to light a fire in my heart for Canada as well as put a burden on my heart for my generation.  I began to catch God’s vision to raise up a group of young “History Makers” that would bring a “Righteous Invasion of Truth” to every area of society.  I felt God was calling me specifically to the area of politics and government.

Canada was straying far from the righteous foundations She was built upon, and I sensed God’s heart was breaking.  In the face of issues like widespread abortion and the changing of the definition of marriage, MY Canada rose up as Christian youth to take a stand for traditional morality in the political arena.  We began to pray, we got involved in campaigns during the election, we met with government leaders… and God is on the move in Canada!

On July 15 of this year, MY Canada, together with the National House of Prayer in Ottawa, spearheaded the “Cry 2”, a day of prayer and worship on Parliament Hill to cry out for the fullness of God’s Dominion to come in our generation.  Hundreds showed up for this public declaration of our desire for God to move in this land.  We prayed for our leaders, we prayed into various issues facing our government, and we prayed that God would move in various areas of our society.  There were young girls crying out with a loud voice for “revival” and already there are reports of people getting saved as a result of the Cry 2.

The war is just beginning, but now is the time that God is calling my generation to impact all areas of our culture for Him.  As we step out, He is faithful.  God is already using Canada’s revived youth to take the nation by storm and bring about His dominion in our land.

History Maker? II: Building on History

Did you know... (this is SO cool, I was moved almost to tears when I read it in Faytene's book "Stand on Guard")

Proverbs 29:18 is carved into the West facing window of the Peace Tower in Ottawa on Parliament Hill: "Where there is no vision, the people perish."  The time has come, the moment is here... this is a NOW generation, it's time to ACT, get the vision and get on board!

The righteous godly Christian foundations of Canada are engraved into our very parliament buildings... how cool is that.  Here's the rest of the story from Paul Foresth's speech at the 1998 Canadian Prayer Breakfast:

"Historical Christian motifs are carved in our parliamentary buildings.  In our Parliament, we see the Peace Tower windows.  Above the east window in the tower is inscribed, 'He shall have dominion also from sea to sea' (Psalm 72:8).  Above the south window it says, 'Give the king Thy judgments, O God, and Thy righteousness unto the King's son' (Psalm 72:1).  The west window has 'Where there is no vision, the people perish' (Proverbs 29:18).  Carved on the largest bell of the tower is 'Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace and good will to men' (Luke 2:14)."

We're not just building castles in the sky here as History Makers, we're building on history... we're talking rock solid foundations here, carved in stone.

Maple Leaf Forever II: The Inside Story

The Maple Leaf Forever

Listen to MIDI version of Maple Leaf Forever

In Days of yore,
From Britain's shore,
Wolfe the dauntless hero came
And planted firm Britannia's flag
On Canada's fair domain.
Here may it wave,
Our boast, our pride,
And join in love together,
The thistle, shamrock, rose entwined,
The Maple Leaf Forever
.
[CHORUS]
.
The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
At Queenston Heights and Lundy's Lane
Our brave fathers side by side
For freedom's home and loved ones dear,
Firmly stood and nobly died.
And so their rights which they maintained,
We swear to yield them never.
Our watchword ever more shall be:
The Maple Leaf Forever!
.
[CHORUS]
.
Our fair Dominion now extends
From Cape Race to Nootka Sound
May peace forever be our lot
And plenty a store abound
And may those ties of love be ours
Which discord cannot sever
And flourish green for freedom's home
The Maple Leaf Forever.
.
[CHORUS]

I didn't know where the "maple leaf forever" idea came from, it just popped into my head when it came time to name my msn space and I knew I'd heard it somewhere... so this is where it all started, a song by Alexander Muir (1830-1906). Check out the above website for more historical info. and to listen to the song.

What's the Big Deal About Same-Sex Marriage?

***Word to the wise: Just want to warn you that the article below is written in a somewhat cynical manner. I hope you are not offended. The author is obviously coming from a very Conservative perspective. I don't necessarily endorse the attitude in which the article is posed. Please take it with a grain of salt... don't throw out the meat with the bones... don't kill the messenger... in short, I think Authur has a very good point here, there's alot of truth to the heart of what he's saying... please don't write him off because he's a Harper fan.
Arthur Weinreb says it so eloquently in this article from the Canada Free Press website, I'll just let you read it for yourself...

Paul Martin

Martin's legacy -- a decline in moral values

By Arthur Weinreb, Associate Editor,
Tuesday, January 17, 2006

There are still a few days left before next Monday’s election and anything can happen. But barring some serious revelation or a huge faux pas on the part of the Conservative Party of Canada, "Scary Stephen" will be transformed into the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada.

Even if the Liberals do manage to squeak through with another minority government, the Liberal Party will work hard to show him the door of 24 Sussex Drive.

In his short tenure at the helm so far, Paul Martin has presided over the decline of Canadian morality. This will be the legacy that he will leave to Canadians; and legacies are usually not left by prime ministers who hold office in the short period of time that Paul Martin seems destined for.

First there was same sex marriage legislation. To paraphrase Andrew Coyne of the National Post, Martin became its staunchest defender after deciding that he was no longer opposed to the idea of marriage between same sex couples. Martin and the other "enlightened" members of Canada’s left assumed that they were broadening the definition of marriage and, to use one of their favourite words, were making the institution of marriage more "inclusive". The reality is that they have made the concept of marriage not more inclusive but utterly meaningless. After the bill became law many people pondered that it would lead to a slippery slope that would see the legalization and acceptance of such practices as polygamy. "Never!!!" cried the Prime Minister and his trusty sidekick, Justice Minister Irwin Cotler.

In early 2005, the Department of Justice paid $150,000 for a study of polygamy by three professors at Queen’s University. The government had intended that the report wasn’t made public but as with so many other things, it was leaked to the media during the election campaign. The report recommends that the section in the Criminal Code that makes the practice of polygamy an offence be repealed. Considering the fact that these sections are hardly ever resorted to, not even in Bountiful B.C. where the practice is done openly, abolishing the penal sanctions would have very little impact. But the report’s authors, although they somewhat couched their language, speculated that the prohibition against multiple marriages could be found to be unconstitutional.

As far as whether or not the prohibition against polygamy is a breach of the Charter of Rights, now that the requirement for marriage has been changed from a man and a woman to two persons, it is difficult to understand how polygamous marriages cannot end up as a right. If there is no requirement that marriage consist of a man and a woman how can there be some magic in the number "2"? Why not 3, 4 or more persons?

Sayd Mumtaz Ali, the president of the Canadian Society of Muslims, gave a cogent argument for allowing polygamy. He said that he and his organization are against same sex marriage but said that now that it is legalized, those who wish to enter into polygamous relationships should be allowed the same rights.

The most surprising comment came from Justice Minister Irwin Cotler. Cotler was quoted as saying, "At this point, the practice of polygamy, bigamy and incest are criminal offences in Canada and will continue to be".

Incest? INCEST? Who said ever said anything about incest? It looks like Cotler knows something that we don’t. Could it be that there is another report out there somewhere that has yet to be leaked? Although most cases of incest that are reported are acts which involve children, in light of the Justice Minister’s reference to it, someone must think that prohibiting acts of incest between consenting adults might also be found to be unconstitutional.

Not to worry. If prohibitions against these types of practices are found to be unconstitutional, then the government can simply use the notwithstanding clause in the Charter. Uh oh! Paul Martin wants to remove that clause to prevent Parliament from overriding the courts. Martin must have looked in the mirror and concluded that Parliamentarians simply aren’t bright enough to be allowed to overrule the Courts. It’s hard to fault him for that.

If the Martin Liberals are re-elected we can look to the legalization and acceptance of polygamy and possibly incest. If we are to retain any concept of morality, these guys have to go.

And if Martin goes, at least he’ll leave a legacy.

History Maker?

History Maker

Is it true today that when people pray
Cloudless skies will break
Kings and queens will shake
Yes it's true and I believe it
I'm living for you

Is it true today that when people pray
We'll see dead men rise
And the blind set free
Yes it's true and I believe it
I'm living for you

I'm gonna be a history maker in this land
I'm gonna be a speaker of truth to all mankind
I'm gonna stand, I'm gonna run
Into your arms, into your arms again
Into your arms, into your arms again

Well it's true today that when people stand
With the fire of God, and the truth in hand
We'll see miracles, we'll see angels sing
We'll see broken hearts making history
Yes it's true and I believe it
We're living for you

Written by Martin Smith ©1996 Curious? Music UK

I've had this song on my heart big time since I first heard it in December 2005 at a MY Canada rally. I think the idea of being a "History Maker" appeals to the inherent desire in all (or at least most) of us to want to make a difference in the world, to do something worthwhile with our lives, to leave our mark on history, to achieve greatness and benefit humanity. But what does it really mean to be a "History Maker"? How does that actually pan out practically? What would a "History Maker" look like? Well, they're not exactly running "History Maker 101" courses at your local college, I can tell you that.

To me, the call to be a History Maker is a call that is going out especially to my generation, not to undermine the power of unified generations or in any way say that the older generations are not needed right now, but I just feel in my heart that God is calling out specifically to the younger generation because we desperately need it. We're dying because we have nothing to live for. We're turning a blind eye because we have no vision for ourselves and the future. We're wandering aimlessly because we have lost our sense of direction.

So, as this generation of History Makers, myself included, rises up, I believe it will look like this: an army of young people that are on fire for God, not afraid to identify themselves with him, with boldness and love to share the Good News, not afraid to live their lives by the Book and stand firmly for the righteousness, morality, and integrity of a person that is truly honored and favoured by God and man. These History Makers will go out and impact every area of society for the Kingdom... I'm talking about Education, Media, Healthcare, Politics, Law Enforcement, the Judicial System, Business, Armed Forces, the Arts... the list could go on and on. Being a history maker is not a nebulous idealistic dream. It can be a reality... but it won't be easy. After all, all the forces of evil will be pulling out all the stops, using the most subtle ploys or the most powerful shock and awe scare tactics or the wearing endless drip of water torture you just can't stand a moment longer, to keep us from fulfilling our destiny... will we let them stop us?

For the sake of nation, for the sake of a generation!
For God and Country!
Will you be a History Maker in this Land?

Maple Leaf Forever

You've heard about PEARSON Int'l Airport in TO, right? Well, here's what Lester B. Pearson, one of Canada's PM's had to say about the dedication of our then new maple leaf flag:
"May the land over which this new Flag flies remain united in freedom and justice; a land of decent God-fearing people; fair and generous in all it's dealings; sensitive, tolerant and compassionate towards all men; industrious, energetic, resolute; wise, and just in the giving of security and opportunity equally to all its cultures; and strong to its adherance to those moral principles which are the only sure guide to greatness.
Under this flag may our youth find new inspiration for loyalty to Canada; for a patriotism based not on any mean or narrow nationalism, but on the deep and equal pride that all Canadians will feel pride for every part of this good land. God bless our Flag! And God bless Canada!"
